In general, I am not much of a jock, but I do love being outdoors. I do love communing with nature. What is so great about outdoor activities is that you get to enjoy the beauty of nature while having a little bit of healthy activity. I personally love nature hikes on the mountains, So I get to exercise without the gym. All in all, it is a great way to spend time and the things you will see beat TV by a long shot. I have a lot of friends who like to go to a gym and workout on treadmills, but to me this is just a waste of time. Why would you want to spend all of your time walking on an imaginary sidewalk in front of a TV when you could be enjoying the outdoors and enjoying the beauty of nature?

The great thing is that you can enjoy almost every activity that done outside provided that the weather is right. During the summer, you can hike, fish, golf, camp - you name it and you can di it. When it gets rainy and cold, however, a lot of people give up on outdoor activities. In my opinion, this is a big mistake. There are plenty of outdoor activities that you can enjoy in the rain, the snow, and the freezing cold. For example, you can go cross-country skiing in the snow, how about some snow boarding. Dirt bike racing is a lot of fun in the mud!

If you use your imagination, you can participate in many outdoor activities almost all year round. The only problem with outdoor activities is the amount of gear that will be required. Outdoor activity gear can be extremely expensive but bargain hunters can beat that these days on the internet. Of course this is where gyms definitely have an advantage but look at all of the fun you are giving up. Your typical gym will have a swimming pool, sports equipment, exercise machines, and courts to play some games but of course there are those gym fees. When you go outdoors, however, you will have to furnish all of the supplies yourself, which actually can be an investment. For the most part if you live in a cold climate you need the outdoor gear anyway and if you don't why pay those gym fees. Many people will say they can't afford many of the sports outdoors, or are hesitant to invest the money that it requires.

My advice is to keep it simple. There are many outdoor activities that you can participate with virtually no investment. You can hike with nothing but a stick and maybe a back pack depending how far you want hike. Of course you can camp with a tent and sleeping bag. You can ski or snowboard with a pair of skis or a board or even a trash can lid, I don't recommend the latter but kids do it all of the time. Of course with imagination and time you can come up with a lot of ways to enjoy the outdoors. Come on lets go!!
